Our Asian Bodywork massage encompasses traditional healing techniques from Thailand, China, India, and Indonesia and Japan. These techniques focus on the balance of energy in the body through the use of pressure points, passive stretching, reflexology, and relaxation techniques. Our therapy focuses on opening energy pathways in the body such as the Chinese meridians, the Indian nadis and Thai sen lines. The body is viewed as being comprised of subtle energy centers, that when blocked or restricted, the person experiences mal health and disharmony in the body, mind and spirit. While Asian body therapy may contain some elements of traditional Western massage, they are not one in the same and the intent is different. We have a totally separate definition of ABT from massage. ABT practices such as Thai Yoga and shiatsu are not included in the definition of massage, and massage is not in any part of the definition of ABT.

Bamboo massage is a technique that incorporates bamboo stalks of varying lengths and diameters to provide deep-tissue work. (The Japanese name for bamboo is take, while the Chinese call it chu. It is from this word that the cho sticks, used by some bamboo massage practitioners, take their name.) We combine elements of shiatsu, traditional Chinese medicine (where bamboo cups or the ends of the stalks are used in specific ways), Thai massage, lymphatic drainage, and even ayurveda into the technique, and sticks are sometimes heated or essential oils are incorporated into the massage. The massage itself promotes circulation, sensory nerve perception, and lymphatic drainage and provides a deep sense of relaxation and well-being. An added benefit for the practitioner is that using the bamboo sticks helps to reduce stress and strain on hands and fingers while still allowing for deeply penetrating maneuvers.

The Health Benefits of AcupressureSafe and highly effective, Acupressure involves no needle-pricks, no heat fomentations, nor any chemical or electric stimulation; Acupressure is used in many conditions ranging from stress management to relieve of arthritic joint and muscle pain. It is particularly effective in allaying pain, which is mainly responsible for causing distress in patients. Owing to the lack of any specific treatment in western medicine the patient often has to depend on strong potent drugs, which can have very harmful side effects. In more and more hospitals in countries like China, Japan and other south Asian countries, anesthetists and other doctors now use acupuncture and acupressure as part of a programme of pain control. Owing to its fast and long lasting effects, Acupressure therapy is effective in all those conditions where physiotherapy is recommended like nnkylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, arm and neck pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, sciatica, backache, prolapsed disc, osteoarthritis and other diseases of soft tissues, muscles, bones and joints. It also relieves and corrects sports and athletic injuries improving athletic performance. We believe that acupressure should not be used as the last resort for these problems but as the first line of attack in this group of locomotive disorders. Acupressure has shown amazing results in neurological diseases like, facial paralysis, headache, migraine, trigeminal neuralgia, incomplete paralysis after apoplexy, peripheral neurological diseases, intercostals neuralgia, Epilepsy, vertigo, Bell’s palsy, multiple sclerosis, hemiplagia, paraplagia and muscular and nerve system diseases. It is also beneficial in adding life to the limbs, which are partially disabled. Thousands of patients have responded favorably and are now leading pain- free healthy lives.
Physical BenefitsFlexibility: Stretching your tight body in new ways will help it to become more flexible, bringing greater range of motion to muscles and joints. Over time, you can expect to gain flexibility in your hamstrings, back, shoulders, and hips.StrengthMany yoga poses require you to support the weight of your own body in new ways, including balancing on one leg (such as in Tree Pose) or supporting yourself with your arms (such as in Downward Facing Dog). Some exercises require you to move slowly in and out of poses, which also increases strength.Muscle toneAs a by-product of getting stronger, you can expect to see increased muscle tone. Yoga helps shape long, lean muscles.Pain PreventionIncreased flexibility and strength can help prevent the causes of some types of back pain. Many people who suffer from back pain spend a lot of time sitting at a computer or driving a car. That can cause tightness and spinal compression, which you can begin to address with yoga. Yoga also improves your alignment, both in and out of class, which helps prevent many other types of pain.Better BreathingMost of us breathe very shallowly into the lungs and don't give much thought to how we breathe. Yoga breathing exercises, called Pranayama, focus the attention on the breath and teach us how to better use our lungs, which benefits the entire body. Certain types of breath can also help clear the nasal passages and even calm the central nervous system, which has both physical and mental benefits.
Mental CalmnessYoga asana practice is intensely physical. Concentrating so intently on what your body is doing has the effect of bringing a calmness to the mind. Yoga also introduces you to meditation techniques, such as watching how you breathe and disengagement from your thoughts, which help calm the mind. Stress ReductionPhysical activity is good for relieving stress, and this is particularly true of yoga. Because of the concentration required, your daily troubles, both large and small, seem to melt away during the time you are doing yoga. This provides a much-needed break from your stressors, as well as helping put things into perspective. The emphasis yoga places on being in the moment can also help relieve stress, as you learn not to dwell on past events or anticipate the future. You will leave a yoga class feeling less stressed than when you started. Read more about yoga for stress management here. Body AwarenessDoing yoga will give you an increased awareness of your own body. You are often called upon to make small, subtle movements to improve your alignment. Over time, this will increase your level of comfort in your own body. This can lead to improved posture and greater self-confidence.

DefinitionReflexology is a therapeutic method of relieving pain by stimulating predefined pressure points on the feet and hands. This controlled pressure alleviates the source of the discomfort. In the absence of any particular malady or abnormality, reflexology may be as effective for promoting good health and for preventing illness as it may be for relieving symptoms of stress, injury, and illness.Reflexologists work from maps of predefined pressure points that are located on the hands and feet. These pressure points are reputed to connect directly through the nervous system and affect the bodily organs and glands. The reflexologist manipulates the pressure points according to specific techniques of reflexology therapy. By means of this touching therapy, any part of the body that is the source of pain, illness, or potential debility can be strengthened through the application of pressure at the respective foot or hand location.PurposeReflexology promotes healing by stimulating the nerves in the body and encouraging the flow of blood. In the process, reflexology not only quells the sensation of pain, but relieves the source of the pain as well.Anecdotally, reflexologists claim success in the treatment of a variety of conditions and injuries. One condition is fibromyalgia. People with this disease are encouraged to undergo reflexology therapy to alleviate any of a number of chronic bowel syndromes associated with the condition. Frequent brief sessions of reflexology therapy are also recommended as an alternative to drug therapy for controlling the muscle pain associated with fibromyalgia and for relieving difficult breathing caused by tightness in the muscles of the patient's neck and throat.Reflexology applied properly can alleviate allergy symptoms, as well as stress, back pain, and chronic fatigue. The techniques of reflexology can be performed conveniently on the hand in situations where a session on the feet is not practical, although the effectiveness of limited hand therapy is less pronounced than with the foot pressure therapy.
